I understand that providers have a duty to discuss overall health with patients, but felt very judged when she abruptly brought up my weight during my appointment. She questioned what, exactly, I was doing to "work on it" and then told me how to eat healthier. My weight is a concern of mine, but I did not feel that it was relevant to the reason I was there - for chronic cough. Additionally, I feel that she made a lot of assumptions about my lifestyle choices with no knowledge or curiosity about the reality - the assumptions were purely based on the fact that I am overweight. This could be very detrimental to someone who struggles more than I do with self esteem, because it did impact me negatively after the appointment. Finally, this entire interaction was done in front of a resident, which was very embarrassing. Conversations about weight can be discussed in a more respectful and mindful manner, and I feel this provider would benefit from some additional training to learn how to do so.
